What was the most interesting thing you did at your internship?

🗣️ Working in a Multilingual Environment
I audited special courses on the strategic implications of human rights, the rule of law and cybersecurity. I organized these courses for Latin American professionals with experience in the military or defense sector. Spending time in the classroom with these individuals, especially in a multilingual environment, was some of the most exciting exposure to the greater defense community. I connected with the students, learning as much from them as the professors.

What did you like most about living in Washington, D.C.?

🫵 Something for Everyone
TFAS places you in an ideal location for people familiar with D.C. and those coming to the city for the first time. I loved being on George Washington’s campus because of its accessibility to many splendid monuments, restaurants and activities. D.C. is one of the most vibrant cities for those exploring our different passions and seeking outlets to express them. If you want to get involved in something, whether it be an academic interest or a hobby, there is a place to do it!

⌚ Shaping my Future
TFAS curated a calendar ideally suited to each student’s interests. Attending guest lectures, professional development seminars and more specific briefings on different career paths, such as intelligence with the FBI and CIA or peacebuilding with the Institute of Peace, has shaped my next steps and helped me consider the best plan for me.

HEARING FROM MY TFAS PEERS, IT WAS SO ENCOURAGING TO SEE THE INTELLECT AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS OF THE FUTURE LEADERS OF OUR COUNTRY

What was your favorite TFAS event?

🪽 Braver Angel Debate
My favorite TFAS event was unexpectedly the Braver Angels debate. This year’s topic was the United States’ position in NATO and whether or not it is beneficial for the U.S. to remain in the treaty. Hearing from my TFAS peers, it was so encouraging to see the intellect and critical thinking skills of the future leaders of our country. With the 2 hours, I learned more about NATO than I have in all my years of schooling.

🌟 Find your Niche
Washington, D.C., can be a high-pressure environment; sometimes, it may feel like you cannot take on any more. Spreading yourself too thin by being involved in everything offered detracts from your experience with each opportunity. Find your niche and pour your heart into it!
