Experience counts in the competitive field of journalism, and there is no better place to gain valuable reporting, writing and editing skills than the number one news town in the world, Washington, D.C. This intensive eight-week program is designed for students looking for professional, hands-on training in print or broadcast journalism, public relations and politics.

IPJ will give you that competitive edge you need in today's job market.

“The memories I made during my summer in DC are innumerable: watching the fireworks explode over the Washington Monument on the 4th, seeing a taping of Pardon the Interruption at ESPN, and getting first-hand advice from MSNBC’s Luke Russert just to name a few. I know I will keep up the friendships I made long after the summer has passed.”

Intern, The McLaughlin Group

One of Washington's top academic and internship programs, IPJ has provided undergraduates with the ultimate Washington, D.C. summer experience for the past two decades. The Institute selects many of the best undergraduate journalism students in the country to attend the Institute each summer. Students attend classes in economics, ethics and leadership and also serve in internships with major news and communications organizations. Participants also attend regular briefings at principal news sites such as The U.S. House of Representatives, the World Bank, the National Press Club and The State Department.

With a single application, students are enrolled in courses held at Georgetown University, live in a furnished apartment on campus in the center of D.C., and are placed in a competitive internship for eight weeks.
