Internships

Overview

An IPVS student at her internship at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington

As part of the Institute experience, students gain valuable professional experience by interning approximately 30 hours a week with a national nonprofit organization, local charity or foundation.

All IPVS internship sites are 501(c)(3) charitable organizations. These placements typically do not involve lobbying or advocacy for a cause but rather working on the front lines to impact the community directly.

Internships are matched with students based on the needs of internship sites and on the student’s skills and experience as expressed on their resume. Students are asked to complete a detailed internship questionnaire upon enrollment which will help Institute Staff facilitate the placement process.

Intern responsibilities vary, but include:

  • Fundraising
  • Direct Service
  • Research
  • Event Planning
  • Volunteer Management
  • Communications/PR
  • Community Outreach
