Students enjoy a Nationals baseball game

Throughout the summer, optional activities are planned to encourage students to socialize with participants from all four Institutes and to take advantage of the many attractions D.C. has to offer.
Past planned social activities have included:
- A night-time guided tour of the city's monuments
- Karaoke or Trivia night
- Movie nights
- Trip to historic Mount Vernon, George Washington's home
- Washington Nationals Game
- BBQ held on campus with alumni, staff and students
- Jazz in the Sculpture Garden
- Canoeing or kayaking on the Potomac River
- TFAS Talent Show
Students also strike out on their own to take advantage of the many cultural and historical sights of D.C. Some examples include:
- Millennium Stage performances at the Kennedy Center
- Visits to the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian Institutions
- Excursions to Old Town Alexandria
- Trips to the National Zoo
- Watching the Forth of July Fireworks on the National Mall
