Daniel Johnson ('07) asks a question at the annual Journalism Awards Luncheon
In addition to the guest lectures and site briefings, IPJ students will also be invited to attend small group activities with professionals in the journalism field.

Such opportunities have included viewing live tapings of political shows such as Meet The Press, This Week, The McLaughlin Group and MSNBC's Hardball. Print students have sat in on editorial board meetings at USA Today, had lunch with reporters and editors from Time, The Washington Post, Newsweek as well as public relations executives.

2007 Small Group Activities

  • Breakfast with Newsweek reporters Rich Thomas and Robert Samuleson
  • Lunch with CNN Political Analyst, Stuart Rothenberg
  • CBS' Face The Nation taping and discussion with host Bob Schieffer
  • ESPN taping of Pardon the Interruption
  • Lunch with veteran USA Today White House reporter, Richard Benedetto
  • Part of studio audience for MSNBC's HardBall
  • Taping of Fox News' Special Report With Brit Hume

“My favorite outing was a trip taken with a small group of my peers to see a taping of Face the Nation. We got to sit in the control room and watch the controlled chaos that comes with switching cameras, cueing commercial breaks, and repairing mistakes. Then following the taping we were honored with a visit by the very congenial and accommodating Bob Schieffer. It was such a thrill not only to get to meet one of the legends of the craft, but to have a meaningful dialogue with him as well!”
