Past Intern Sites

Interns at The Washington Times

IPJ students have the opportunity to intern at a variety of media outlets, public relations firms and non-profit organizations.

Past Intern Experiences:

  • Sarah Myers from The University of Virginia interned for National Journal writing articles and briefs on technology policy issues, putting together morning features on international and opinion technology coverage.

  • Emily Schwartz from the University of Pittsburg spent her summer with Ketchum Communications where she did story pitching to reporters and producers, worked on media monitoring, media lists, intern proposal projects, media primer project, compiled briefing books, and did research for various clients.
  • Amanda Zusman from Northwestern University worked at Campaigns and Elections Magazine where she had several weekly assignments that she worked on, including writing a story based on poll results as well as creating poll questions. She also wrote one to two stories a week for the website and wrote a story for both the July and August issue of the magazine.
  • Nicholas Ballasy from Rider University won a coveted slot with CNN’s White House unit where he logged taped, researched and pitched stories, made calls to gather information, assisted producers in the studio with finding sound bites for news pieces, assisting producers on shoots, wrote stories to turn into a package and practiced stand-ups.
  • Ben Blanton from Bob Jones University worked at WTOP’s Fedeal News Radio where he helped show producers, booked guests for interviews, searched out and reported stories, and shadowed full-time reporters.
