LIFE IN D.C.Housing
Students will have the option of living on Georgetown University’s campus or in the heart of Capitol Hill. All students are matched with roommates of the same sex and are housed together with other TFAS students.
All summer institute participants will have full access to the many amenities of Georgetown University regardless of where they live. Those amenities include the gymnasium, library, computer labs and free transportation to/from nearby Metrorail stations during the weekdays.
HOUSING ON CAMPUS
About the Apartments
2007 participants were housed in the Henle Village apartment complex on Georgetown University’s campus. The four to five-person apartments are furnished, internet-ready, and air-conditioned with a full kitchen and access to laundry facilities. In 2008, students will again be housed in an apartment style complex with similar amenities.
Transportation
Students living on campus have direct access to the free Georgetown University Transportation bus (GUTS). The GUTS bus operates five shuttle routes, connecting the campus to the Georgetown University Law Center on Capitol Hill, to University offices on Wisconsin Avenue, to Metro stations at Rosslyn (Virginia) and Dupont Circle ( District of Columbia) and two stops in North Arlington, VA. There are also various metro bus stops near campus.
Neighborhood
Georgetown University’s campus is located on the banks of the Potomac River. The neighborhood of Georgetown pre-dates the District of Columbia and the capital city of Washington. Today, this area is known for its quaint streets, elegant homes, fine restaurants and shopping, and vibrant nightlife.
HOUSING ON CAPITOL HILL
About the Apartments
Participants who opt and are approved to live on Capitol Hill will be housed in apartments in an urban setting near Pennsylvania Avenue. This is the perfect location for students who will be interning on or near the Hill. These apartments are also furnished, internet-ready, air-conditioned with a kitchen and access to laundry facilities.
Transportation
Just a short walk to the Eastern Market or Capitol South metro stations, students living on Capitol Hill will have easy access to multiple forms of public transportation. As an institute participant, students will also have access to the free Georgetown University Transportation bus, making it easy for students to get back-and-forth from their classes on campus in Georgetown.
Neighborhood
The historic apartment buildings located on the House side of Capitol Hill are part of the largest residential neighborhood in Washington. It is one of the oldest residential communities in DC with numerous shops, restaurants, Congressional buildings and many of the city’s most significant cultural attractions close by.
