INTERNSHIPS

Overview

By interning for corporate government relations and lobbying experts from a wide range of issues, students learn how companies represent their interests in the nation’s capital.

For approximately 30 hours a week, students will intern in the lobbying office of a national corporation, lobbying firm, or trade association.

Internships are matched with students based on the needs of internship sites and on the student’s skills and experience as expressed on their resume. Students are asked to complete a detailed internship questionnaire upon enrollment which will help Institute Staff facilitate the placement process.

Internships provide students with a first-hand look at the delicate relationship between business and government.

Intern responsibilities vary, but often include:

  • Covering Congressional Hearings
  • Conducting Research
  • Coordinating Events
  • Managing Databases
  • Writing for a Newsletter or Other Publication

Below is a sample weekly internship schedule:

Monday: 9:00am - 4:30pm
Tuesday: 9:00am - 5:30pm
Wednesday: 9:00am - 5:30pm
Thursday: 9:00am - 5:30pm
Friday: No Internships
