The Engalitcheff Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems
enrolls approximately 130 students each summer from campuses across the country,
all of whom are undergraduates who have completed at least two semesters of study
at an accredited college or university by the start of the Institute. Applicants
are also expected to have taken at least one semester of economics, preferably
macro, before submitting their application to the program. Application
Procedure The
Admissions Committee will review applications as they are received. Applicants
will be accepted, declined or put on a waiting list. Applicants may check their
application status online and find out which application items are missing. Early
Action (deadline - January 15) Though every completed application will
be considered until the final deadline if March 15, Students who apply early action
receive first consideration for both admission and scholarships. To apply early
action you must: 1) use the online application form 2) submit all supporting
documents (including those for your scholarship application if you are requesting
financial assistance) on or before January 15. Note: Even if you miss the
Early Action deadline, you are still highly encouraged to submit your application
as soon as possible for best admission and scholarship consideration.
Rolling Admissions (Final deadline - March 15) In addition to the online
application, all supporting documents (including those for your scholarship application
if you are requesting financial assistance) must be received by the March 15 deadline.
All applicants must submit a complete application consisting of the following
items: - A completed
Application for Admission form (complete online).
- Two letters of recommendation.
One must be from a Dean or professor (fax to 202-318-0441, mail, ask recommender
to respond to submit electronically).
- An original copy of your official
transcript from your home university (by mail).
- Proof of economics prerequisite
(macroeconomics is recommended) -- can be listed in official transcript.
- A
typed, one-page professional resume (must mail or email in Microsoft Word or PDF
format).
- A 400-500 word essay (email or fax to 202-318-0441). Topic:
Identify the most important economic or political issue facing your country. Provide
an explanation of the problem and suggestions as to what you think could impact,
change or resolve it. A strong essay is one in which your voice is heard.
- A
non-refundable application fee of $30. You may pay your application fee online
with Visa or MasterCard, or may mail a check payable to The Fund for American
Studies.
Applications may be submitted by mail or fax rather than
online. Please note that applications submitted online are processed quicker and
applications will not be reviewed until they are complete and the fee is paid.
International Students International students who have
not attended one of The Fund's programs in Prague, Greece, and Hong Kong (AIPES,
IIPES, AIPE) may apply but are not eligible for scholarship assistance. Students
from select countries are eligible to apply to our international programs. Please
refer to www.tfasinternational.org
for details. International applicants must include a copy of the TOEFL Exam score
with the application (not necessary for graduates of AIPES, IIPES, or AIPE). Graduates
of AIPES, IIPES, or AIPE should consult their cover letter for specific application
procedure. For international students living outside the United States, your complete
application is due by February 15, 2004. Application Deadlines
Applications will be accepted beginning October 1, 2003 until March 15, 2004 (all
applications must be postmarked or submitted from this website by this date).
The early application deadline is January 15, 2004. Applicants are encouraged
to apply early as acceptance, internship placement, and scholarship decisions
are made on a rolling basis. Scholarships Scholarship
awards are based on financial need, academic excellence, extracurricular achievement,
and leadership qualities. For scholarship consideration, students must submit
the following in addition to the aforementioned requirements: A brief essay
explaining why you deserve a scholarship (mail, email or fax to 202-318-0441).
If you applied for aid - your most recent financial aid statement, in the
form of either your school bill or a financial aid award letter. (fax to 202-318-0441
or mail). Your family's 2002
1040 tax return (or your own if no one can claim you as a dependent). Fax to 202-318-0441
