Erin Slater is the Chief Executive Office of College Mentors, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit organization that cultivates ongoing one-on-one relationships between college students and elementary-aged students.
For the duration of the school year, college students are coupled with elementary students, creating a buddy pair. These buddy pairs meet in groups for weekly activities on the college campus. Through these activities, children explore new opportunities and begin to develop a larger sense of the world and their place in it. CMFK originated at Indiana University in 1995. Since then, CMFK has grown to include twelve more colleges across Indiana.
Erin has a rich history with College Mentors. As she began her studies on working with at-risk youth and families, she founded the Purdue University Chapter of College Mentors for Kids. After finishing her studies, Erin was asked to join the College Mentors staff as program director. Now, as chief executive officer, Erin is focused on strategic planning, board development, major gifts, and program expansion.
Erin was the recipient of the IPVS 10 th Anniversary Alumni Award during the summer of 2009. This award is meant to honor an alumnus who is impacting their community by serving as a volunteer, a non-profit employee or an active donor to celebrate the anniversary of the Institute.
Erin is a graduate of Purdue University and has served as an intern sponsor and a guest panelist for IPVS. She has also helped to organize IPVS alumni reunions and student events during the Institute.
